Community Health Story Board
This course is designed to orient students as change agents toward community health promotion and to mobilize the rural population to identify their needs to enhance their health situation. It explores the range of factors that affect and have impact on community health, along with the various interventions available to promote health and well-being.
Introduction to Community Health
Community Health is a transformative journey into the heart into the heart of public health where students become the catalyst for change. It is not just about learning facts and figures; it’s about empowering you to make a real difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are:
- Understanding the concepts of health and community health.
- Identifying the impact of environment and describe how communicable diseases
affect health.
- Acquiring basic knowledge on community-based maternal and child health care.
- Identifying methods and techniques for raising health awareness.
- Describing the role of community health workers.
- Being able to set community health programs.
- Introducing a community development approach to AIDS and TB.
Course Learning Outcome
Upon completion of the course:
- Students will be able to define key terms and explain the principles of health and community health.
- Students will analyze environmental factors and assess how communicable diseases influence health status.
- Students will describe essential components of maternal and child health programs in community settings.
- Students will design and evaluate health education strategies suitable for rural communities.
- Students will explain the responsibilities, challenges, and impact of CHWs in promoting public health.
- Students will develop a basic plan for a community health initiative, including diagnosis and planning.
- Students will propose community-based interventions for AIDS and TB prevention, care, and control.
Course Policy
- Only students who registered for the course will receive the link to the join the e-learning lectures/sessions.
- All assignments should be submitted at their due time. Late assignments will not be accepted by the system and the student will get a “Zero”.
- Active participation from all students is expected.
- The reading materials will be done by and with students.
- Students who have access to good network facilities
- Collaboration of students in search and compilation of the reading materials is required and will be graded.
- Suggested /required reading materials will be discussed in class.
- Proper and accurate citations and links is required.
- Students should write their questions in the Chat and raise their hands. Such queries and questions will be answered after the lecture / presentations.
